Tay and Chan Kabs’ story started as love at first sight. They met on a bus when they were only 12 years old, and they’ve been together ever since. In a YouTube video, Chan jokingly said that she was actually creeped out by Tay’s stare.
He was eventually able to get her phone number and give her a call. From talking constantly, their relationship grew until they became a couple.
The pair has been together since 2003. When asked how they’ve managed to stay together for such a long time, they had a simple tip.
“We laugh a lot. Every day.”
Aside from the deep love they have for each other, Tay and Chan also share moments of laughter and happiness.
Now that they have children, it has become their goal to share and educate the little ones about their culture. Chan is from the Congo, while Tay’s family is from Ghana. At home, they speak their native language to preserve the family’s heritage.
Chan and Tay have three wonderful children. In one of their YouTube videos, Chan shared the story behind the kids’ names. Their daughter, Taija, was named after her husband and God. Maliya, their second baby girl, was named after former President Barack Obama’s daughter. Their youngest son is named TJ.
The London couple’s fame started when they posted glimpses of their life on Snapchat. Their audience grew, and soon enough, people were asking them for more videos. They decided to make an official YouTube channel for their daily vlogs.
“It was nice to get that kind of feedback, that people were enjoying our day-to-day stories of family life.”
As a 29-year-old couple, it’s very important for the Kabs to show that younger generation couples can have meaningful relationships and become responsible parents.
“Some say young people don’t stay together. We’ve been together since 2003, which is shocking to some.”
Out of all the family videos they’ve posted, one really stands out. A video entitled “2-year-old takes over dad’s music again” has hit 16 million views since being posted last year.
The video starts with Tay and his daughter Maliya sitting in their parked car, listening to some good music.
Sometimes, a song is just too good, and you have to sing along—even if you get the lyrics wrong.
And this is exactly how Maliya belted out “KiDi” by Odo.
In the video, Tay’s daughter sings with confidence, matching it with some heartfelt expressions and gestures. She’s clearly feeling the vibe of the song.
When the song switches to a more jovial beat, she begins dancing while still singing her gibberish lyrics.
Throughout his daughter’s performance, Tay keeps a straight face, seemingly unamused by the fact that the little one couldn’t get a single lyric right.
Maliya remains oblivious to her dad’s expression and continues to dance and sing, filling the car with her energy. She even glances up at her father every once in a while, as if asking, “You’re not feeling this?”
Finally, a point comes when Tay threatens to stop the car music. To this, little Maliya responds with a loud and continuous, “No no no no no…”
It was probably one of her favorite songs. She proceeds to scream happily as it starts again and eventually attempts to open the car door so she can dance outside.
Tay prevents her from doing so by saying, “Mali, what are you doing?”
She replies, “I’m trying to get out. I want to dance outside!”
This toddler doesn’t care about the wrong lyrics. She just wants to sing, dance, and have fun.
As for her dad—well, we all know that behind that emotionless face, Tay is really entertained by his daughter’s behavior. She’s just too adorable, even with her incorrect lyrics.
Since then, Maliya has become the apple of the internet community’s eye!
One viewer commented, “This girl is so cute she’s three and she knows lots of songs and she’s really funny!!!!”
Another viewer commented on Tay’s expression, “Dad is looking like: This is all my fault… I really created her.”
