The Sweetest Senior Dog With A Heartbreaking Story Strikes An Unlikely Friendship With His Neighbor

Sometimes, all you need to find happiness on a dark day, is the heartwarming story of an unlikely friendship. Today, let this senior dog and his neighbor friend remind you that life is worth living for the little joys it brings every day.

If you’re a dog person, then you can probably list a million reasons as to why they’re such awesome animals. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to see a happy face and a wagging tail greet you every morning? Plus, science has proved that dogs improve your mood. That’s right, spending 15 to 30 minutes with your dog can calm you down, reduce stress, and have you feeling positive through the day.

Dogs of all breeds and sizes are amazing. Dogs of all ages are great too! Seniors, for example, have their own set of quirks and unique personalities that make them wonderful additions to a family.

It’s sad how most people shy away from adopting senior dogs because they think they’re too much of a burden. But the memories you make with an older dog are just as special as the ones you have with a puppy. If you don’t believe us, then wait until you’ve read this beautiful story about the sweetest Golden Retriever and his favorite friend.

Sweet Senior Dog Makes Sure to Visit His Neighbor Every Day

One look at Cheddar and you’re bound to feel warm all over. This senior dog is nearly a decade old, but he’s still got his youthful personality intact. Cheddar wasn’t always this happy, though. His previous owners had to give him up after he was diagnosed with cancer. They no longer had the time or the resources to take care of this loving Golden Retriever.

Luckily for Cheddar, he eventually found a new home with Shelley Vassall and her husband. Life wasn’t easy for the dog at first as he had to adapt to his new environment. But in time, he started showing progress, picking up toys and slowly opening up to his family.

And then something amazing happened.

While on a walk with Cheddar, the Vassalls introduced the dog to their neighbor. And that’s how Cheddar met Jean. The senior dog couldn’t help but fall in love with her. Soon enough, the two had become the best of friends! Cheddar now makes it a point to visit Jean every day.

“We try and go there every day if we can,” Shelley shared with The Dodo. “They live around the corner and one street over from us. When it’s been more than a few days and we haven’t seen her, Cheddar is particularly vocal when we visit next. He knows exactly what street they are on and in fact, even if we don’t head there, he insists on it by pulling on the leash and trying to turn in that direction. If we pass the house with no intention of going in, he plants himself with full body weight on one spot and stands there until you relent.”

Cheddar’s owners aren’t too sure why he loves Jean so much. But it doesn’t matter at this point, what’s important is that he’s as happy as ever!

We hope this story helps you realize just how amazing older dogs are and maybe one day, you can also give a senior dog the loving home he or she deserves. In the meantime, please feel free to share this post to brighten up someone’s day.
